Story

For many years this was the song with which closed our shows...it was rough and it was raw...and I was always unhappy with the final verse. While recording this album I sent a demo of this song to our mate, the ever charming and forever reeling Tim Rogers (You Am I) who sent me back his lyrics for the final verse (and what a great apocalyptic ending he brought to the song) and then sang his heart out recording his part at Shane O'Mara's studio in Melbourne, Australia.

Tim Rogers is up there with Bruce, Bob and Tom Waits as my favourite lyricist. To write a song with him is something precious that I will keep with me till the day i die.

Special mention to Richard Hunter's incredible harmonica solo...it makes me grin every time! Lightnin' Rick strikes again!

This track was featured on Stove Pony's "What's kicking" CD and on UK Rock Magazine FIREWORKS' free CD.

Lyrics

Gypsy Child | GOTTA BE (SOMETHING OUT THERE TONIGHT)

I’ve been waiting here all day
For my doubts to clear away
Sitting in the shades
Hoping to someday get away
Now I’ve seen your look as evening comes
And I know you feel like me
This time and place means nothing to us
It’s a like tearing off the crust

(Chorus)
So pack your bags, travel light We’re going, going tonight
‘cause I know , I swear to you
There’s gotta be something out there tonight…something for me and you

The dust that covers this road
has choked my lungs,
The streets of this town
have worn me to the ground
I hear ghosts late at night
calling me away
I smell the road, feel the wind
I ain’t ever coming back

(Chorus)
You said the words long ago And now it’s time to go
‘cause I know I swear to you
There’s gotta be something out there tonight…something for me and you

(Chorus)
Please don’t cry We’re getting out
We’re going, going tonight
‘cause I know I swear to you
There’s gotta be something out there tonight…something for me and you

The wind is warm and there’s a silence in the air
My hope is my prayer
I see the lights of my own town disappear in my mirror
I swear on this night
I ain’t ever going back
